One man was taken into custody after being chased down by an officer with the Mt. Juliet Police Department.

The suspect was with another man when they were spooked by the officer who had noticed an alarm going off at a market while on patrol.

The incident happened around 3:15 a.m. Tuesday at the Citgo Fasttrack market in the 1200 block of South Mt. Juliet Road.

The officer noticed two men inside the market stealing items from the store.

The two spotted the officer and ran, which was when the officer gave chase.

Authorities said one of the men got into a white GMC pick-up truck and sped down Central Pike.

The officer was able to catch the other man after he ran into the woods.

Officials said the man, identified as 52-year-old Richard Black of Nashville, punched at the officer and fought with him. The officer was not seriously injured.

Black was booked into the Wilson County Jail and charged with burglary, theft of property, possession of burglary tools, possession of drug paraphernalia, vandalism, resisting arrest, evading arrest, and assault.

The other suspect’s identity remained unknown. He was described as a middle-aged white man with a teardrop tattoo under his left eye.

Anyone with information regarding this incident has been asked to contact the Mt. Juliet Police Department at 615-754-2550.
