One person has died after being struck by a train in Sumner County.
Crews responded to the scene near the intersection of Longview Drive and Ridgewood Drive in Portland after a CSX employee called it in shortly before 2:44 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the Sumner County Sheriff, 31-year-old Jonathan Jones was killed when jumped in front of the train.
The 35-car train had been traveling from Kentucky to Nashville.
It’s unknown at this time if the incident was accidental. Officials with the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office said they didn’t want to speculate. According to the conductor, who was operating the train, they were running approximately 20 mph as they approached the city.
The investigation remained ongoing.
