The Cumberland River was full of boats all competing for the grand prize in this year's Dragon Boat Race.
The opening ceremony began at 8 a.m. Saturday as the race celebrated a big milestone. It was the tenth year for the Cumberland River Dragon Boat Festival.
The festival has celebrated the importance of the Cumberland River to the city of Nashville.
The stretch of river downtown once was polluted. Thanks to the work of the Cumberland River Compact and others, it has been cleaned up and is a great place to spend the day.
Races started around 9 a.m. followed by an awards ceremony at 2:30 p.m.
There were 48 teams competing with 20 paddlers per team, a person to steer the boat, and one drummer.
