Volunteers from across Nashville came together to make sure people in need won't go hungry this holiday season.

The Rotary Club of Nashville and Second Harvest Food Bank of Middle Tennessee teamed up for the annual "Feed the Need" project.

Around 190 people came together Saturday morning to pack over 1,600 food boxes for people in the Watkins Park community.

Many of the recipients were elderly or disabled. It's the 15th year for the event.

Participants said it was a great opportunity to help others.

“The economic situation is difficult and the need is greater than ever before, so that is why we want to provide these gift baskets to 1600 families in Watkins Park area,” said Joyce Bise.

After packing the boxes, members of the Rotary Club took the food to several delivery points.
