Crews with the Animal Rescue Corps were able to rescue 18 dogs from what they called deplorable conditions in east Tennessee.

Volunteers were called to a home in Morgan County, located west of Knoxville, to rescue the animals.

The home was apparently full of feces and didn't have running water. Officials said the animals were starving.

The homeowner was arrested on animal cruelty charges.

The dogs were expected to be brought to an emergency shelter in Lebanon, where they will be fed and treated.

Once they’re rehabilitated, they can be adopted.

No additional details were known.
