Two people have been charged in relation to a fatal shooting in East Nashville.
Authorities confirmed both 26-year-old James L. Bratchie and his girlfriend, 22-year-old Crystal Taylor, have been charged with criminal homicide.
The charges stemmed from the fatal shooting of Mark T. Matlock in a parking lot near Shelby Park’s tennis courts.
According to an investigation, the victim went to that location just after 5 p.m. Tuesday to sell heroin. He was allegedly shot during a botched robbery attempt.
Matlock was still able to drive from the parking lot to Shelby Avenue. Officials said he was headed west when he lost control near 17th Street and crashed into an MTA bus.
Authorities said Matlock’s passenger, identified as 32-year-old Angel Pendred, was hospitalized due to injuries from the crash.
Matlock passed away after arriving at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
Officials recovered the getaway car used by the two suspects from Elliott Drive Wednesday afternoon. They were able to find Bratchie and Taylor nearby to place them under arrest.
