The Department of Defense has confirmed the deaths of three Fort Campbell soldiers.
Officials made the announcement Monday and said the three soldiers were supporting Operation Inherent Resolve.
Reports stated 27-year-old Staff Sergeant Matthew C. Lewellen, of Kansas, 30-year-old Staff Sergeant Kevin J. McEnroe, of Arizona, and 27-year-old Staff Sergeant James F. Moriarty, of Texas, passed away Friday in Jafr, Jordan.
All three died from wounds sustained when their convoy came under fire entering a Jordanian military base.
Those with the Department of Defense said the incident remained under investigation.
The three soldiers had been assigned to the 5th Special Forces Group (Airborne), Fort Campbell, Kentucky.
