Police ID Man Killed, 2 Hurt In North Nashville Shooting

Police have identified the man killed and two others injured during an apparent shootout in North Nashville.

The incident happened in the 1600 block of 12th Avenue North around 7 p.m. Sunday.

Officers were nearby when they heard gunshots and responded to the scene, where they found three victims. 

Police said 31-year-old Charles Eugene Smith was found with multiple wounds inside a crashed Jeep Cherokee. He was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.  

Another man, identified as 23-year-old Christopher Hatcher, also suffered multiple wounds and was found in the road. Police said he was in a Nissan Altima at the time of the shooting.

He was also taken to Vanderbilt, where his condition was not known. 

According to police, Hatcher’s friend, 32-year-old Victoria Johnson, received a non-critical wound to her arm. She was treated and released. 

Authorities said evidence suggests the two men were shooting at each other, although a possible motive was not yet known. The investigation remained ongoing.
