Four people have been injured after being struck by a vehicle on Interstate 24.

The incident happened just after 9 p.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 54, just past the Briley Parkway on-ramp.

Authorities said a two-vehicle crash had happened in that area, and the people in those vehicles got out to assess the damage.

A passerby had also stopped to help out at the scene of the crash. The passerby and three people involved in the crash were then struck by a third car.

Three victims were taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. Officials said two of them had critical, but non-life threatening injuries.

The passerby was taken to Southern Hills Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

Westbound traffic was reduced to one lane with the roadway expected to be cleared by midnight.

No further details were available.
