Tennessee's opioid epidemic claimed a life, and murder charges have been involved.

Four people have been charged in connection with the deadly overdose of 38-year-old Nicole Aylward.

Shannon Wise and Joseph Thompson, a Hermitage couple who police said gave Aylward heroin, have been facing second-degree murder charges.

Tests found the heroin was allegedly laced with fentanyl.

Also charged were Michael Lacefield and Najir Ellis after they said the pair sold or delivered the drugs.

James Cooke was also behind bars on drug charges. Metro Police believed he was the person who shipped the tainted heroin from Detroit to Nashville.
