A 91-year-old woman was critically injured during a home invasion in south Nashville.

The incident happened around 10:30 a.m. Thursday at a home on Edmonson Pike, located not far from Old Hickory Boulevard.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said the suspect knocked on her back door and then punched her repeatedly while forcing his way inside.

The suspect came across the victim's daughter and reprotedly began beating her with a mop.

Police said he is described as a black man in his 20s, approximately 6-feet tall, and may have a mustache.  He was wearing a white or light gray t-shirt.

He got away with an armoire and a gold ring containing topaz, sapphire and tanzanite stones, and a white gold wedding set with a square cut ¼ carat diamond with multiple small diamonds in the wedding band.

The victims said he fled in a white or tan SUV or van.

The younger victim called a family member who took them to Southern Hills Medical Center, where the elderly woman is in critical but stable condition. Her daughter was not admitted.
