A man considered armed and dangerous has been apprehended, and authorities said his girlfriend was in the care of law enforcement.
Reports stated officials with the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office responded around 6:45 a.m. Wednesday to an incident at Hilham Highway near Highway 293.
Authorities said Enrique Hernandez had allegedly attempted to commit aggravated assault and kidnapping against his girlfriend, identified as 25-year-old Daisy Gonzalez.
Officials said Hernandez was arrested on June 23 for domestic assault against Gonzalez. He served time in the Overton County Jail.
Warrants for two counts of aggravated assault and kidnapping were issued for Hernandez regarding Wednesday’s incident.
Authorities said Hernandez was known to be armed and dangerous. The whereabouts of both Hernandez and Gonzalez were initially unknown.
According to reports, the sheriff's office requested the assistance of officials from the Tennessee Highway Patrol and their helicopter from Nashville. They said the area they had been searching in was a vast rural area that's heavily wooded.
Officials confirmed the use of the helicopter proved successful. They were able to spot Hernandez from the air, land, and arrest him.
Hernandez was charged with violation of bond condition, two counts of aggravated assault, and aggravated kidnapping. Authorities said more charges may be pending. He was being held on a $265,000 bond.
Reports stated officials with both the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and the Federal Bureau of Investigation were involved in the investigation.
