A search got underway overnight after an armed robber stole cash, cigarettes and a charity jar from a Hermitage convenience store.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department were called to the Mapco at 5400 Old Hickory Boulevard just before midnight Sunday.

The clerk told police the man demanded cash and cigarettes and then grabbed the charity jar on the counter before running away.

The suspect, described as a white male, had a black scarf over his face and a black hoodie pulled tight.

Police K9 units were on the scene but couldn't track any scent because of heavy pedestrian foot traffic.

The investigation remained ongoing.
