Bail Bondsman Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion

Posted

A bail bondsman in Nashville has pled guilty to tax evasion.

An investigation by officials with the Tennessee Department of Revenue led to a guilty plea on Thursday by 56-year-old William Byles, the President of A-Luv Bail Bond, Inc.

The plea to three counts of tax evasion was accepted by Judge Cheryl Blackburn.

Byles was placed on two years of supervised probation. His sentencing was suspended until March 8, 2019.

“Our state’s tax structure depends on voluntary taxpayer compliance to remit money they collect from customers,” Revenue Commissioner David Gerregano said. “Taxpayers who fail to remit collected taxes violate the public trust and the criminal laws of Tennessee. This guilty plea highlights our rigorous and impartial administration of the state’s tax laws.”

Authorities said anyone who has suspected violations of Tennessee's revenue laws can call a toll-free tax fraud hotline at 1-800-372-8389.
