Hundreds came together to support a local musician who lost his home in a fire while on vacation.
The event at The Basement East was all to support Todd Austin, or as his fans call him, “Toddzilla.”
The benefit concert took place Saturday night. Several bands performed in front of a packed house.
Austin has been an electric guitarist known for his high energy and colorful performances.
A fire destroyed his East Nashville home and killed seven of his cats. One cat survived. Officials said they believe the cause was an electrical failure in the basement.
Since the fire, friends have set up a gofundme account for him, but they also put on this benefit show to help him get back on his feet.
“What's happening here tonight is one of the most amazing things that has ever happened to me in the shadow of probably the worst thing that has happened to me,” Austin said. “I think I mentioned before the pendulum swing back-and-forth, this is the high part. Tonight we get to celebrate by doing what we do. Find a little bit of normalcy by getting up on stage, and play and forget about it for a little while.”
All of the money raised will help Austin find a permanent home.
