Bicyclist Killed In Hit-&-Run In Columbia

A man has been killed in Columbia after being hit by a vehicle while riding a bicycle.

Authorities said the incident happened around 8 p.m. Saturday in the 200 block of Riverside Drive.

Officials said they found 50-year-old James Michael Mealer with extensive injuries. He was treated, but later passed away from his injuries.

A preliminary investigation showed Mealer was riding his bicycle when he was hit from behind. The vehicle fled from the scene.

Witnesses described the vehicle as a large dark-colored truck. Authorities said the truck was believed to have damage to the front passenger side headlight area.

Investigators have been working to identify the vehicle and driver that hit Mealer.
