To celebrate Black Friday, two area animal shelters have been set to offer free pet adoptions this weekend.
The Williamson County Animal Center has waived all pet adoption fees on black dogs, and dogs with any black coloring, both Friday and Saturday. It is an effort to find those dogs a home.
"Black dogs and cats have a harder time getting adopted, and that they stay in shelters longer, and we really want them to find loving homes," said Samantha Anderson with the Animal Center.
Williamson County was also offering free adoption for all cats. The center is currently over capacity with cats.
"All cats and kittens are at no cost right now, as well as any dog over six. If you're over 55 you can adopt any animal for free," Anderson explained.
At Metro Animal Care and Control the adoption fee was waived for all pets on Friday, and the special was extended to Saturday.
Last Black Friday, Metro adopted out 50 pets. They hoped to better that number this year, while still upholding all adoption standards.
"It's so important to make sure we have the best possible match, not only for the family, but for the animal as well," said Rebecca Morris from Metro Animal Care and Control.
That facility has been scheduled to be open Saturday from 10 a.m. through 4 p.m. for adoptions. For more information, visit them online by clicking here.
