Authorities said they’re investigating after a man’s body was found in Columbia.

Officials said the body of 59-year-old Ronnie Dean Lanier was found by a passerby in a grassy area near railroad tracks by South High Street and Depot Street just before 9 a.m. Wednesday.

According to reports, there were no obvious signs of trauma, but authorities said they haven’t ruled anything out.

The scene was active for several hours Wednesday as officials investigated the area.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Thursday to determine the exact cause of death.

Anyone with information that could help the investigation has been urged to call the Criminal Investigations Division of the Columbia Police Department at 931-560-1670 or Crime Stoppers at 931-381-4900.
