Police opened an investigation after the body of a man, who police said was beaten to death, was found near downtown Nashville.
The man was identified as 53-year-old Alvester Merriweather who was homeless.
Metro Nashville Police officers were flagged down at 7:50 a.m. by people telling them about the man found dead Friday morning on Lafayette Street at 2nd Avenue South.
According to police, Merriweather was last seen alive between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m. Friday. He worked out of a temporary staffing agency on Lafayette Street.
Anyone with information on Merriweather’s early morning murder was asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
