Officials with the Tennessee Department of Transportation confirmed a bridge in Smith County has reopened.
The US 70 North bridge over the Caney Fork River closed to traffic in January. Wednesday, officials said it had reopened.
Additional work was still needed on the bridge deck. Crews said they’d be working on that during the day on weekdays, but they added the bridge would remain open to traffic.
According to reports, the bridge originally closed due to multiple cracks on several pier caps.
TDOT officials determined more steel was needed in the support system. That work took around six months to complete.
Those with TDOT said they’re working with the Federal Highway Administration to determine how to fund the bridge repairs.
