Bus Carrying 40 Marines Catches On Fire On I-24

A bus carrying 40 U.S. Marines caught on fire on Interstate 24 near Monteagle.

The fire happened Monday in the westbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 136.

Reports confirmed all of the Marines made it safely off of the bus. No injuries were reported.

The cause of the fire was unknown; however, officials confirmed the bus was not involved in a crash.

The Marines had been traveling from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune. Those with Transportation with school buses in Grundy County sent a bus to pick up the Marines.

According to reports, they were traveling to Nashville for Marine Week.

The interstate was shut down for a while as crews investigated and cleaned up the scene.
