A fugitive wanted for two counts of child molestation has been captured, according to officials with the Tennessee Highway Patrol.
Authorities said a sergeant in Giles County apprehended 41-year-old George A. Salazar, of California, on Monday.
The sergeant saw a commercial vehicle on the scales with a low safety rating.
That rating made the sergeant tell the driver to park the tractor trailer to undergo an inspection.
Officials said during the inspection, a check was also done on the driver, identified as Salazar, through the Blue Lighting Operation Center (BLOC).
It was discovered Salazar was wanted in California for two counts of child molestation. He was arrested and taken to the Giles County Sheriff’s Office.
“This is a great example of how troopers are looking beyond the initial contact with a person and are therefore removing dangerous individuals off of the roadway,” Colonel Tracy Trott said.
Salazar was awaiting extradition to California.
