A man was killed when he was hit by a semi on Briley Parkway. The crash closed multiple lanes of the roadway.
The wreck happened in the southbound lanes in Davidson County near Exit 7 for Elm Hill Pike around 4:30 p.m. Friday.
Late Friday night, the victim was identified as 27-year-old Marcus Dixon, of Nashville.
Reports stated Dixon had been in a cab and had asked to be dropped off on Briley Parkway. Police said the driver refused and then drove Dixon to Elm Hill Pike. Dixon then got out of the cab and left his wallet behind.
Authorities said Dixon returned on foot to Briley Parkway. He allegedly walked north alongside the roadway toward oncoming traffic.
The driver of a tractor trailer, identified as 45-year-old Jeffrey Shrum, was attempting to exit Briley Parkway and was in the far right turn lane near Elm Hill Pike.
Police said Shrum told investigators how Dixon had made eye contact with him before jumping into the path of the semi.
According to Shrum, he was unable to avoid hitting Dixon who died at the scene.
Reports stated toxicology testing was planned for Dixon to determine if alcohol or drugs were factors.
The roadway was closed for several hours while crews worked at the scene.
