Fight Leads To Crash On SR-109 In Sumner County

State Route 109 closed in both directions in Sumner County due to a crash, and authorities said it started with a fight between a boyfriend and girlfriend.

The wreck happened around 7:15 p.m. Saturday in the northbound lanes at South Tunnel Road.

Reports stated the two were fighting, and the boyfriend allegedly grabbed the steering wheel from the girlfriend, causing them to wreck into a guardrail.

When they got out of the vehicle, officials said the boyfriend reportedly hit his girlfriend in the face. They reported she told him to stop and he wouldn't.

Authorities said she then got out a knife and stabbed him twice while he was hitting her. People who stopped at the scene were able to get him off of her.

One of his wounds was to his neck, and officials said his injuries were serious. He was taken by LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. His condition was unknown.

According to witnesses, the girlfriend had told him to quit or she would stab him.

Reports stated the girlfriend had signs of being hit on her face.

No identities had been released in this incident.

The roadway was closed in both directions while crews worked at the scene. Traffic was diverted to alternate routes.

Officials said the roadway was expected to be cleared by 9:30 p.m.
