Schools Close Due To Water Main Break In Antioch

Posted

A large water main break forced the closure of at least two schools in southeastern Davidson County.

The break was reported around 12:30 a.m. Thursday, not far from Antioch Middle School located on Blue Hole Road.

The area from Antioch Pike to Tusculum Road was shut down for most of the morning due to the break.

Officials with Metro Water Services said water has since been restored to those affected.

Officials with Metro Nashville Public Schools said Antioch Middle School would be closed for the day. They also said all after school activities, including athletics, tutoring and NAZA (after school care) will also be suspended for the day.

They said faculty members will not report to work either.

At one point, the school’s parking lot was flooded as a result of the break.

Lighthouse Christian School will also be closed, along with several businesses and the Antioch Rec Center.

Crews worked throughout the morning to dig up the road in order to fix the broken main.

Officials said the cause of the break was mostly likely due to the age of the water line.
