One year after the Spring Hill public library started loaning out free mobile Wi-Fi hotspots to patrons, folks there said they've been a big hit.
For the past year, library patrons there have been able to check out a mobile hotspot for free and keep it for a week.
The library said the demand for the units has become bigger than ever and now other libraries across the country are starting to take notice.
More than just people who can't afford internet, the library said one group that uses the hotspots frequently are people who have just moved to town, and are waiting for their internet provider to make a permanent installation.
“We get people new to the area and they may have a period of time where the internet is just not hooked up in their home yet, so this is a great tool for them to be able to use,” said Jennifer Urban with the library.
The library has 20 mobile hotspot units to loan out to patrons. They said next year, they hope to have up to 50 units.
