A surprise tornado touched down in Bedford County on Christmas Day.
The National Weather Service confirmed an EF-1 tornado touched down briefly in Shelbyville near the Newell Rubbermaid plant early Friday morning.
Officials said there were no watches or warnings in place for the area at the time.
According to authorities, two large sections of the plant's roof were damaged and six empty tractor trailers were blown over.
The neighboring Calsonic plant also had some windows blown out.
Employees for both plants were on Christmas vacation Friday, and no injuries have been reported.
