A Mid-State man has been called a hero after coming to the rescue at a Portland Food Lion grocery store.
Friday, a customer there collapsed after an apparent heart attack, and Michael Slayton, one of the employees, sprang into action by administering CPR.
When paramedics arrived, they took over, and they told Michael the victim probably would have died had he not been there.
For his part, Slayton said he's no hero, he just wants to encourage others to learn the same CPR skills he did.
“Get it done, never stop your training,” Michael said. “Continue on, that way you can help a family member or someone you don’t know. You never know. If you have it, you can use it. If you don't, you won’t.”
Slayton continued, “The good lord just put us together."
The family of the man who had the heart attack said he still has a long road of recovery ahead of him, but they added they're grateful Slayton stepped in to help.
