Police have been searching for at least one driver who was illegally racing down the interstate and caused an innocent driver to crash.
The wreck happened on Interstate 24 East, about a mile before the Old Hickory Boulevard exit just southeast of Nashville, after 12:30 a.m. Saturday.
The victim was identified as Andy Dean. His truck flipped over and landed on its roof, but somehow he made it out with just a scratch.
Dean said he was driving home when someone hit him from behind. Authorities said that was a yellow Pontiac G5 that had been illegally racing down I-24.
The Pontiac was found at the scene with damage, but the driver fled, as did any others who may have been involved.
“I’m going to die. I'm going to die,” Dean said of what went through his mind during the crash. “So as soon as it stopped, the first thing I had to do was get out of the truck because I'm in the middle of the interstate. I'm lucky to be alive.”
Officials said they’re trying to find out more about whoever was inside the Pontiac; however, they added that would be difficult because there was no license plate on the car.
Anyone with information has been urged to call police.
