Judge Ordered To Stop Hearing Wife's Cases

Posted

The Tennessee Board of Judicial Conduct has reprimanded a Montgomery County judge and ordered him to stop hearing cases in which his attorney wife has been involved.

The Leaf-Chronicle reported a cease-and-desist order filed Monday in Nashville said Montgomery County General Sessions Judge Ray Grimes shall disqualify himself from participating in proceedings that involve his wife, Clarksville attorney Sharon Massey.

In addition, the judicial conduct board sent a letter of public reprimand to Grimes because he disposed of "numerous cases" in which defendants were represented by his wife.

Massey and Grimes have said all the cases were settlements that had been reached out of court and just needed to be signed off.

Grimes signed off on the order, which was dated December 29.
