A Kentucky man who drowned over the weekend in the Barren River has been identified.
Officials with the Warren County Sheriff’s Office said the body of 35-year-old Vehab Cuturic, of Bowling Green, was pulled from the water shortly after 5 p.m. Sunday.
Sheriff’s officials said they received a call early Sunday morning from a man who said his friend had gone underwater at the Barren River Lock.
Authorities arrived on the scene located just off Greencastle Road in Richardsville and began searching for the victim.
Witnesses said he was trying to cross the river on a sandbar when he lost his footing, yelled for help and went under water.
One of the witnesses tried to rescue him, but was unable to do so.
Cuturic was pronounced dead at the scene.
