Officials with the Logan County Jail have confirmed that 34-year-old Joseph Harris was arrested 10 days before Tuesday’s shooting in Russellville.

Additional details of his arrest were not provided.

Investigators said Harris, of Lewisburg, Kentucky, pulled into a McDonalds parking lot and shot his former girlfriend, 28-year-old Amanda Harper, who was waiting in the drive-through line.

From there, he fled on foot and encountered three Russellville Police officers, identified as Sergeant Morris Kisselbaugh and Officers Stephen Meredith and Seth Whittaker.

According to officials, Harris fired at the officers and was struck three times by returning gunfire.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Logan County Coroner’s Office. An autopsy will be performed at the Medical Examiner’s Office in Louisville.
