Representatives with the home improvement retailer Lowe's announced they plan to build a new fulfillment center in Robertson County, creating 600 jobs.

Construction on the $100 million facility has been set to begin immediately at the 110-acre site in Coopertown, about 25 miles northwest of Nashville.

Those with the company said the facility will ship orders directly to customers and to stores.

When completed by the end of 2018, the facility will cover 1.1 million square feet, or the equivalent of 22 football fields under one roof.

Lowe's has operated 60 stores in Tennessee, employing 9,000 people.

Governor Bill Haslam joined company and local officials in making the announcement in Coopertown on Wednesday.

The governor noted that Lowe's joins more than 16,000 transportation, logistics, and distribution establishments operating in the state.
