Police confirmed they took a man into custody who led officers on a short car pursuit from Mt. Juliet to Antioch.
The incident began around 1:48 a.m. Tuesday when an officer stopped a Pontiac Bonneville for speeding.
The vehicle was stopped on South Mt. Juliet Road near Central Pike.
According to reports, the driver took off when the officer approached the car. Authorities said it was during the pursuit that they realized the registration did not match the vehicle.
The pursuit lasted six minutes and ended in the 3700 block of Seasons Drive in Antioch.
The driver of the car was identified as 48-year-old Shannon Chadwick who got out of the car and appeared to surrender.
However, authorities said he once again tried to get away from police by running. He was quickly captured. Officials confirmed a taser was used on Chadwick to stop his resistive behavior.
Another man in the car cooperated with officers and was not charged.
An investigation showed Chadwick had a revoked driver’s license. He was also wanted in Smyrna for a charge of failure to appear in relation to a felony theft of merchandise case.
In Chadwick’s possession Tuesday, authorities said they found heroin and drug paraphernalia, including hypodermic needles, scales, pipes, and spoons.
Chadwick had been injured in a separate incident before coming into contact with police. He was taken to the hospital for treatment before being booked into the Wilson County Jail.
He has been charged with driving on a revoked driver’s license, two counts of felony evading, reckless endangerment, resisting arrest, simple possession of a schedule III drug, and unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia.
