A man believed to be under the influence of methamphetamine was arrested after crashing a stolen car.
The wreck happened around 7:30 p.m. Sunday at 4th Avenue and Bridge Street in Franklin when the man, from Alabama, crashed into a telephone pole and a tree.
Officials said they found the demolished telephone pole and an empty vehicle when they got to the scene.
Witnesses were able to give a description of the man to officers. He was later identified as 27-year-old Joshua Benefield.
Benefield was taken into custody after a brief foot chase on Main Street.
Reports stated he was armed with two knives at the time of his arrest, and a handgun was also recovered from the car he had been driving.
Authorities said Benefield remained behind bars in the Williamson County Jail. He was charged with DUI, evading arrest, failure to report a crash, and reckless driving.
Officials said additional charges have been expected, and a hold was place on him by two other jurisdictions who want him on criminal charges.
Benefield has been scheduled to appear in court at 1 p.m. on August 17.
