A Shelbyville man has been arrested for attempted rape of a child and solicitation of a minor.

Officials with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office said they took 44-year-old William "Greg" Maupin into custody Wednesday.

Maupin was arrested after a lengthy investigation involving a suspicious post on Craigslist. Investigators learned of the post through a tip from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

An undercover investigation led to Maupin’s arrest. He was charged with two counts of attempted rape of a child and two counts of solicitation of a minor.

Maupin was being held in the Bedford County Jail on a $300,000 bond. He has been scheduled to appear in court March 9.

Along with the sheriff’s office, the Shelbyville Police Department, Winchester Police Department, Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation assisted in the investigation and undercover operation.
