Authorities said a Knoxville man has been charged with making threats against a former mayor of Rockwood.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation said 59-year-old Thomas Pierce was charged Friday with one count of retaliation for past actions and four counts of unlawful possession of a weapon.

The TBI said Pierce was a former long-time Rockwood city employee. He was set to go on trial in Roane County for theft of money from the city.

Agents said Pierce has made threats against a former mayor. A vehicle matching the description of Pierce's was located Friday in Rockwood, and officers conducted a traffic stop. Investigators said Pierce was armed with several firearms in his vehicle.

It was not immediately clear if Pierce has a lawyer for the charges filed Friday.
