A man has confessed to the murder of a woman in Smyrna.

Authorities with the Smyrna Police Department said the body of 45-year-old Kimberly Allen was found inside a home in the 200 block of Branch Trail Friday.

Investigators were able to gather evidence and follow leads, which led them to one of Allen’s acquaintances, identified as 31-year-old Eric Ellis.

Detectives said Ellis confessed Friday evening to murdering Allen. He has been charged with first degree murder, kidnapping, aggravated burglary, theft of $10,000 to $60,000, and fraudulent use of a credit card.

Further details on the murder were not being immediately released.

Ellis was being held in the Rutherford County Jail on a $1,200,000 bond.
