A man was listed in critical condition after he was shot several times in East Nashville.

Police had not released a suspect description, but officers said they’re following leads in hopes of tracking down the person responsible for sending a man to the hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Authorities responded to the James Cayce Homes just before 1 a.m. Friday.

When officers arrived to the courtyard, they found a man who was shot several times in the pelvic and leg area.

That man was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center in critical condition.

Residents in the neighborhood said they heard about five gunshots and saw several people run away, but they were not sure if it was the shooter or people trying to dodge the bullets.

Officers said they were still speaking with witnesses.
