A man has died after allegedly being shot in the head by his 15-year-old son.
Officials said the shooting happened just after 10 p.m. on July 23 at a home in the 3300 block of Cocoa Drive.
Reports stated 46-year-old Scottie Bailey was found in a bedroom with a gunshot would to his forehead.
Officers responded to the scene after a 911 call was made by Bailey’s son, Scottie Bailey, Jr.
Authorities said Bailey, Jr.’s account of what happened evolved throughout that night. They added that, ultimately, he told them he went into his father’s bedroom to look at the gun in the dresser.
He told officials the gun accidentally fired and hit his father in the head.
Bailey, Jr. then allegedly took a shower, changed clothes, cleaned his room, and drove to Antioch to see a friend without calling for help for more than three hours.
His father died Wednesday night at Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
The pistol believed to have been used was found in the console of a vehicle.
An attempted murder charge placed against Bailey Jr. has been expected to be amended to criminal homicide in Juvenile Court.
