Authorities have charged a man with criminal homicide after he allegedly fatally stabbed his boyfriend.

Officials said the incident happened before 2 p.m. Friday at the couple’s home in the 1700 block of 10th Avenue North.

Police said the victim, 50-year-old Terrance Eddings, called 911 to report he had been stabbed.

Detectives charged 58-year-old Ricki Patton after finding him sitting at the top of the stairs in the home near Eddings.

Patton was detained, and Eddings was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center where he died from a wound to the chest shortly after 5 p.m.

Patton told the lead detective he had been in a physical fight with Eddings when Eddings slapped him and hit him with a plastic bottle. He added he remembered grabbing something and hitting Eddings.

Officials said they believe that item was a knife.

Patton was being held in Metro Jail in lieu of a $150,000 bond.
