A man's burned body was recovered over the weekend from a fire at a homeless camp in Nashville. Authorities said blunt force trauma played a role in his death.

Officials with Metro Nashville Police said an explosion was reported Sunday in a heavily wooded area along Davidson Street near Shelby Park.

The incident happened around 6:30 p.m.

Police said they recovered the burned body of 55-year-old Horace Horton, who was homeless, from the fire.

A second fire, with a small propane tank in the center, was also located not far away.

According to investigators, a preliminary autopsy revealed that blunt force trauma played a significant role in his death.

Several other tents were also at the camp but no one else was present when police arrived.

Anyone with information about Horton’s murder was urged to contact Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463.
