A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a vehicle that fled the scene, and authorities said they have identified and interviewed the driver.

Officials said the incident happened around 5 p.m. Friday along Nesbitt Lane.

The victim, identified as 52-year-old Michael Billy Drake, passed away, according to authorities.

According to witnesses, Drake was walking in the grass by the roadway when a red SUV ran off the road, hit him, and continued driving toward Gallatin Pike.

Saturday morning, the driver, identified as 31-year-old Ateah M. Williams, contacted police saying she believed she was the one they were looking for.

According to Williams, she blacked out while driving Friday evening, and she admitted to taking medication that made her drowsy.

Officials said they impounded her SUV after viewing the damage to the passenger side. Police also said Williams was driving without a valid drivers license last night.

Williams had not yet been charged, at the recommendation of the District Attorney's Office. Authorities said charges were expected after the completion of the investigation and an analysis of the medication.

Officials added Williams had previously been convicted of a hit-and-run that involved property damage in 2014 on Neely's Bend Road at Gallatin Pike when she hit a vehicle and kept going.
