A man has died after an officer-involved shooting in Morgantown, Kentucky.
Authorities with the Kentucky State Police in Bowling Green said they were notified of the incident that happened around 2:13 a.m. Sunday in Butler County on Logansport Road near Dave Gaskey Lane.
Reports stated Deputy Chris Reneer with the Butler County Sheriff’s Office stopped a 2010 Ford Explorer for outstanding warrants on those inside.
As the deputy attempted to positively identify the passenger, later identified as 43-year-old Randy J. Clark, Jr. of Bowling Green, Clark became combative.
Deputy Reneer then used his taser during the physical altercation, but Clark remained combative, got into the driver’s seat, and accelerated.
That’s when Deputy Reneer was dragged by the vehicle.
The deputy then fired multiple shots, hitting the suspect. The vehicle went a short distance after the shots were fired before hitting a guardrail and coming to a stop.
The deputy was then able to free himself from the vehicle.
According to reports, Clark was pronounced dead at the scene. He had been wanted on multiple outstanding warrants in Warren County and by Probation and Parole.
Deputy Reneer was taken to the Medical Center in Bowling Green for non-life threatening injuries.
The investigation remained ongoing.
