Authorities said a man was shot to death in the early morning hours, and police confirmed the suspect has been taken into custody.

Officials with the Metro Nashville Police Department were flagged down around 4:30 a.m. Saturday on Alameda Street.

According to officers, the victim, identified as 32-year-old Antonio Montez Massey, had been shot once in the torso.

Police said he was conscious and breathing when he left the scene, but he died before reaching the emergency room.

Late Saturday afternoon, officials charged 31-year-old Roderick D. Massey with criminal homicide in Antonio's death. They also confirmed the two were not related.

A preliminary investigation showed Antonio allegedly fired a shot outside before going into a home and getting into an argument with Roderick. That's when the fight escalated and became physical. Several shots were fired, fatally wounding Antonio.

Authorities said the pistol believed to have been used was recovered by officers in a yard beside where the shooting happened.

The investigation was ongoing.
