A man was taken to a Springfield area hospital after he was pistol-whipped, causing a gun to discharge.
According to Springfield Police, two men got into an argument at the Stop One Market shortly after 10:30 p.m. Thursday.
At some point, the suspect pistol-whipped the victim and caused the gun to discharge.
Police said they initially thought a man had been shot because of the gunfire.
Officers searched the area overnight using flashlights to try to find shell casings.
The victim was transported to NorthCrest Medical Center with a head injury, but is expected to be okay.
Investigators said the discharge may have been accidental.
As of Friday morning, the suspect was still on the run. No identities were released in the case.
