A man has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly brandishing a machete in front of a female victim.
Police said they responded to the call of a man with a weapon in the 1700 block of 14th Avenue North on Wednesday.
The suspect, later identified as 64-year-old Phillip R. Holden, allegedly had a machete and was wearing a beige trench coat with a patch over one of his eyes.
Holden was found and detained by authorities, and the machete was found nearby in the yard.
The victim, identified as Lekishia Phillips, told officials she and Holden live in the same house but rent different rooms.
Holden had allegedly called Phillips derogatory names throught the day, according to the victim, and she said she began to call police when he spit on her hand.
That’s when the victim said Holden knocked the phone out of her hand and pushed her against a cabinet. He then got his machete from his room a short time later and threatened to cut the victim if she had called police.
Holden then left the home until police arrived at the scene. A witness at the scene confirmed the victim’s story.
Holden was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
