A man who shot at police officers during a standoff at his north Memphis home two years ago has been sentenced to six years in prison.
Twenty-six-year-old Misael Chica-Arguenta was sentenced Friday in Shelby County Circuit Court for attempted voluntary manslaughter.
Prosecutors say Chica-Arguenta fired a shot through a windshield of an occupied police vehicle in September 2014, then waved a pistol at officers as he stood on his porch. He pointed the gun at his head, then fired shots in the direction of officers. He was wounded as officers returned fire, ending the standoff. His live-in girlfriend told police he had fired three shots at her inside the home before officers arrived.
Prosecutors say Chica-Arguenta testified he was depressed and was trying to get police to kill him.
