An officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department was stabbed while trying to break up a large fight.
The incident happened around 9:15 p.m. Monday on South 7th Street, not far from the Cayce Homes area.
Officer Josh Hausman was one of three officers sent to the scene after reports of a fight.
Police said they gave verbal commands to the crowd, who was between the ages of 16-20.
Hausman was working to break up an altercation between two females when he was stabbed in the hand.
He said it’s unknown if he was the intended target or if the suspect was trying to stab someone else.
The officers said the crowd was not particularly aggressive toward them, but just seemed to disregard their presence.
The motive for the fight remained unknown.
