An officer with the Metro Nashville Police Department has been decommissioned following a DUI arrest.
Officials said 41-year-old Officer Howard R. Martin has been under administrative investigation resulting from his arrest on Wednesday.
Martin allegedly hit a parked vehicle, a mailbox, and a trashcan around 3:45 a.m. Wednesday while he was off-duty.
The incident took place in the 3700 block of Whitland Avenue. Martin continued to drive away from the scene afterward, according to reports.
When authorities made contact with him, they said he smelled of alcohol and was unsteady on his feet.
A pistol personally owned by Martin was found inside the Jeep he was driving.
Martin, an 11-year veteran of the MNPD, was charged with DUI, leaving the scene of an accident, failure to provide information, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.
He posted an $8,500 bond and was released from jail.
MNPD officials said he had been decommissioned and was set to be assigned to desk duty pending the administrative investigation.
